IF you come home to find an answerphone message from John of the "Information
Team" asking you to call him back... don't.
It will cost you at least 10p a minute and, victims say, you'll be left on hold in a long queue.
The Information Team's Paul Hilsworth says they are a US-based market research firm
currently offering advice on cutting energy bills.
Profits from the phonelines only cover their staff costs, he claims. But they are also rewarded by utility companies
for finding new customers.
Telstra Europe, who supply the 0871 number, admit they are "extremely concerned" by the amount of
complaints they are getting about this lot.
But not concerned enough to cut them off and risk legal action for breach of contract.
They'd rather people were fooled into paying to hear an unwanted sales pitch while they "monitor this situation
